McGuinness visits town centre traders

THE Deputy First Minister visited Banbridge town centre last week in the wake of the decision to approve planning permission for Tesco at Bridgewater Park.

Martin McGuinness met with representatives from the town’s Chamber of Commerce where he pledged support for the local traders, citing the employment they provide in the town.

Mr McGuinness also discussed other issues with the Chamber including the possible introduction of parking charges, the new small business rate relief and carrier bag charges.

A spokesperson for Banbridge Chamber of Commerce said, “We are pleased that the Deputy First Minister realises the importance of supporting local businesses and has taken the time out of his busy schedule to come and speak to us.

“While we were very disappointed in Minister Edwin Poots’ complete U-turn against his own planning department, we are still committed to continue the growth of our town centre in this difficult financial climate.”
