Councillor Mallaghan said, “It is extremely welcome news that some of our shops can start to reopen from the end of this week. Our independent retailers are at the heart of our town centres, and we would urge our residents to get behind our local businesses in the weeks and months to come, many of which employ local people - those familiar faces that we haven’t seen for so long. We can do this by not just reconnecting with their premises, but also by respecting the measures they have put in place to operate safely when we do so.

I know that hard work is happening with many different organisations working in partnership to welcome people back with confidence. As we begin the process of the resetting, recovery and renewal of our town centres, we will undoubtedly be stronger together.”

Council will continue to work with a range of key stakeholders to support businesses as they become operational once again, and to help residents to reconnect with their town centres.
