East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson was welcomed to Sainsbury’s Carrickfergus by Andrew Haldane, Counters Regional Business Support manager.

During the exercise, they covered the importance of safety and hygiene and the regionality of products while preparing food. Mr Wilson received tips from trained staff on how to prepare the perfect meal for your family, whether it is filleting a fish, preparing a joint or spicing it up with a marinade.

The initiative was designed to highlight the various career opportunities retail offers and the training available to colleagues.

Mr Wilson said: “I’ve had a great day accompanying Andrew. It’s interesting to see how passionate the colleagues are, and meeting local customers.”

Mr Haldane added: “It’s not every day you have your local MP in to work with you - I really enjoyed sharing some of the skills I’ve learnt and having an extra pair of hands.”

This year Sainsbury’s was awarded its second consecutive gold Investors in People accreditation for supporting, developing and motivating its colleagues.
