Mum and daughter make their legal mark

A MOTHER and daughter from Kells have been making waves in the legal world.

Phyllis Agnew has been appointed as Senior Partner at Belfast law firm Tughans, one of the largest firms of its kind in Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile, her daughter Sarah has just graduated from the University of Dundee with a First Class Honours Degree in English Law with French, winning the Whitehall Prize for Best Honours Dissertation along the way.

Sarah spent her entire school career – from pre-school playgroup to A Levels – at Ballymena Academy.

After taking a year out to pursue her passion for showjumping she went to Dundee University, where her four-year course included a year spent at university in the French city of Toulouse where she studied French Law and obtained the Diplôme des Études de l’Union Européenne.

She is likely to embark on a legal career which might just emulate that of her mother.

Phyllis Agnew joined Tughans in 1981 and became a Partner in 1988, one of the first female lawyers in Northern Ireland to be admitted to partnership of a leading commercial practice.

She is one of Northern Ireland’s leading experts in the field of commercial property law and heads up the Real Estate team at Tughans.
