New charges at Portballintrae Harbour?

Boat owners in Portballintrae could soon be charged for the use of the harbour.

Portrush councillor Christine Alexander told a meeting of Coleraine Borough Council last week that she felt it was ‘unfair to others’ that there was no charge at the village’s harbour.

Corporate Director of Leisure Services Richard Baker told the meeting that there was a ‘distinct difference’ in the state of the harbour at Portballintrae in comparison to Portrush and Portstewart.

Councillor Alexander put forward a proposal for charges to be introduced at Portballintrae, this was seconded by UUP councillor Richard Holmes.

However, an amendment by DUP councillor George Duddy, seconded by Deputy Mayor, Mark Fielding, that any decision to charge should be deferred until appropriate costs were put forward was carried.
