New investment for firm

Boyce Precision Engineering complex at Inn Road Lurgan, has taken delivery of a state-of-the-art Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling machine. The machine, which can be operated manually, mechanically and digitally, shapes metal and other solid materials.

The CNC technology is the result of an investment from the Local Action Group Southern Organisation for Action in Rural Areas (SOAR) under the Rural Development Programme.

George Boyce from Boyce Precision said: “This new technology really will make a difference to our design and production capabilities. We’ve had to turn work away but now we can take on additional work and deliver it more efficiently.”

Boyce Precision Engineer Ltd deals with a wide variety of precision engineering challenges including component machining, machine prototyping and manufacture as well as tool and mould production.

“We produce small precision, one-off components through to large special purpose machines,” explained George who, with his brother Brian, runs the business which was set up in 2007. “We design machines, fixtures and other structures that have exceptionally high tolerances. The new machine allows us to produce tooling for injection moulding companies who previously have had to source this from the UK and further afield.

“I am delighted SOAR has been able to assist me in this business expansion. As well as increasing my work force, I will now also be able to meet new workload demands.”

Cllr George Savage, chair of the Joint Council Committee (JCC) for SOAR commented: “This is a very innovative project, which will offer employment opportunities locally and develop a highly specialist service”

Michael McCoy, Chair of the Local Action Group stated: “It is great to see such a diverse range of projects receiving support to establish, develop and grow their rural businesses and to create job opportunities locally.”

SOAR are keen to hear from farmers who wish to set up a new business outside of mainstream agriculture, emphasising that the process is easy and straightforward. They are also keen to highlight that applicants will be supported by a friendly, helpful and experienced team of people who are available to talk them through their business ideas.
