Development works have begun on site and are focused in the centre’s ‘Shore Car Park A’, adjacent to the McDonalds restaurant.

A spokesperson said: “We are doing everything in our powers to deliver this new store with minimal impact to our retailers and shoppers and respectively thank you in advance for your patience and understanding for any inconvenience as a consequence of these works during this time.

“Please be advised that additional car parking has been provided to minimise inconvenience to our customers as part of the ‘Shore Car Park A’ has been given over to facilitate the development works. Car parking is still available in ‘Car Park A’ and access to the shopping centre remains open from the Shore Road,” they said.

NewRiver Retail acquired the Abbeycentre in August 2014 and since then, together with the Abbey Management team, have worked hard to advance this exciting new development.

Core to the development is the creation of a new anchor store – a 43,000 sq/ft Next across three floors. The new Next store, which will be three times the size of the existing Next, will offer shoppers a wide range of ladieswear, menswear, kids fashion and homewares along with a cafe. This will significantly enhance the retail offer at Abbeycentre, helping drive sales for existing retailers and attracting new shoppers. The retail line up is also being improved with exciting new brands arriving in the coming months.

The centre will also be undergoing major re-branding and refurbishment works, together with improved signage, way-finding and a new digital parking system.

Works commenced on Monday, September 7 and should finish in Autumn 2016.

Next plan to be open for business by Christmas 2016.
