Newtownabbey father and son help lead company to Queen’s Award

Technical Metals Group Limited, based in Newtownards, Co Down, is to receive The Queen’s Award for Short Term Outstanding Growth.

David Sales is managing director and his son Darren is operations manager at the company.

David said: “I am delighted and proud of the fact that the TML Group have achieved this prestigious award which reflects the dedication and professionalism of all our staff and employees and the excellent working relationships we enjoy with our customers and suppliers.

“We have consistently strived to exceed customers expectations and expand our export portfolio. This award recognises that our strategy has been successful.”

Technical Metals Group Limited, which was established in 1984, manufactures and treat components for various sectors including, aerospace, defence, medical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical and space. A range of materials is available for spring manufacture from standard spring steel, nickel, cobalt and titanium alloys.

In 1999, Technical Metals became the parent company for Springco NI Limited, established in 1954, which manufactures compression, torsion, tension and flat springs, wire shapes and tube forms. Springco NI Limited has the expertise in spring design along with spring manufacture. Customers are based in Europe, USA, South America, Canada, China, Australia and India and the strategy involves entering into legal partnerships with key stakeholders in these markets and establish collaborative working relationships with customers.

In a statement, the company pointed out that overseas sales have grown by 184% over the three-year application period and the proportion of sales exported has increased to 41% of total sales.

The company wins The Queen’s Award for International Trade for Outstanding Short Term Growth in overseas sales over the last three years.

The awards ceremony was due to take place in June but has been postponed due to Covid-19.
