She may have graduated from Huddersfield University with a degree in Surface Design for Fashion and Interiors only last summer, but Danielle McGilloway, from Burnfoot, is already making a mark on the fashion and design world.

While putting together her final show, Danielle was selected by her course tutors to submit her designs to the organisers of the prestigious Surface Design Show, which is at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London, from February 4 to 6.

Huddersfield University has a long-standing connection to the show and designs by selected students are shown there every year. However, Danielle’s work was also chosen for inclusion in the marketing and promotional material for the event, and she has been offered a stand of her own to showcase her dresses.

One of her dress designs already features prominently on the Surface Design Show website, advertising the show.

Commenting on the opportunity, Danielle said: “I submitted my work and then forgot about it, what with all the pressure of getting my final show together and completing my exams. I couldn’t believe it when I found out that my design had been chosen to feature in the marketing campaign for the Surface Design Show. It is such a thrill to see it on the website and know that people in the industry will be looking at my work.

“I can’t wait to get to London next week, and take part in my first industry event as an exhibitor. It’s hard breaking into the fashion world, but hopefully being at the Surface Design Show will help me find the right opportunity,” she said.
