Carrickfergus YMCA Parents and Kids Together (PAKT) is to receive a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness support from Sainsbury’s Carrickfergus.

Customers were able to vote for their favourite charity in the sixth year of the Local Charity partner scheme, which has raised over £6 million for local organisations

The store team will be fundraising for PAKT, which works with communities in Glenfield, Woodburn and Sunnylands, throughout the year. They also plan to hold ‘Live Well for Less’ cookery sessions, careers events and other initiatives.

Maurice Shearer, PAKT co-ordinator, said: “We know the success that the Local Charity partnership has bought to many charities in Carrickfergus, so when we received the news, we were thrilled.

“We hope the partnership will help raise awareness of our cause to the store’s customers and will help us develop the important service we provide to the community.”

Last year the Rodgers Quay outlet raised over £5,000 for Northern Ireland’s Children to Lapland Trust. The charity will be using the money towards fulfilling the dreams of terminally ill, long term ill and deserving children by taking them to see Santa at his home.

Shoppers, according to Sainsbury’s, had a huge say in this year’s announcement and voted in-store and online earlier this summer.

Bea Cox, store manager, said: “We’ve had a great response from our customers this year, both through in-store and online votes. We’re delighted to have chosen a charity which touched many of our colleagues’ hearts.

“We will now be working closely with the charity to ensure they really benefit from being our Local Charity for the next 12 months”.
