Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council confirmed it has received on behalf of BLK BOX Fitness a proposal of application notice for the proposed erection of a manufacturing warehousing/distribution unit with associated offices and car parking at Global Point Business Park.

Welcoming the project, which it is understood could create upwards of 80 posts, South Antrim DUP MP Paul Girvan said: “I am delighted that BLK BOX has chosen South Antrim as the base for their expansion and new headquarters and this move is recognition of the wonderful opportunities and workforce that this constituency provides.

“BLK BOX is a market leader in their field, with clients including Adidas and Pure Gym. Some of their recent work includes a gym project at the world-famous Jumeriah Hotel in Dubai and work on the new Adidas headquarters in Germany.

“With the company beginning the process of seeking planning permission for their new headquarters, I would encourage the council to work at speed to allow this important investment to be developed as soon as possible.”

Echoing these sentiments, the Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cllr Jim Montgomery said: “Having recently met with senior representatives from BLK Box Fitness, I warmly welcome their announcement to locate their new headquarters at Global Point Business Park, Newtownabbey.

“They are an innovative company operating in a range of international markets and have enjoyed considerable success with delivering a number of high profile projects in recent years. It would be a very welcome boost for our local economy, and could potentially lead to the creation to a significant number of jobs in our borough.

“It also showcases Global Point as an attractive site for investment, particularly for export orientated manufacturing businesses seeking strong connectivity and close proximity to Belfast International Airport, and the Port of Belfast.”

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “The council will, of course, seek to process any associated planning application submitted to it expeditiously.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the company said it was not in a position to make a comment on the proposed move to Newtownabbey at this time.

The news about BLK Box Fitness follows the announcement that Ashers purchased Newtownabbey Central Services depot.
