All three of the McKeever Hotel Group’s Northern Ireland businesses, which between them employ more than 200 people, were recognised for their ‘silver service.’

Corr’s Corner, The Dunsilly Hotel in Antrim and the Adair Arms in Ballymena have all received the accreditation which is a management standard for high performance through people.

The prestigious accreditation is recognised across the world as a mark of excellence.

Eugene McKeever, Managing Director of McKeever Hotel Group, started working at Corr’s Corner in 1966 when he was just 12 years old. Having worked his way up in the hospitality industry, he returned to Corr’s in 1993 as owner of the landmark hostelry.

Having grown the McKeever Hotel Group in Northern Ireland, and expanded into the Irish Republic with a new offering in Letterkenny, Mr McKeever was awarded the MBE for services to tourism and hospitality in last year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.

“As a family run hotel group, taking pride in our people is part of our ethos,” he explained. “We believe it’s really important to give the people who work here the chance to develop their careers so we offer them training and the opportunity to advance in the company. This has been the backbone of the company as staff feel that they belong with us and have a great loyalty which shines through in our customer service,” he added.

In an industry where employees move jobs frequently or work temporarily, the company has an incredibly high staff retention rate, with many working for the company for many years.

Martin Toner, general manager at Corr’s Corner, has worked for the McKeevers for 27 years.

“We have a great training programme and staff know that they can start anywhere in the company and through hard work and a great attitude they can work their way up and we will support them. I think that’s hugely important to people,” he said.

IiP recognises when a company takes staff development very seriously and has a pipeline of talent working their way up so that the organisation is sustainable in the future.

The McKeever Group has supported a number of employees to go on to do university degrees in hospitality and management, which have been a great asset to the company.
