Social Economy Hub move is welcomed

The commitment for a Social Economy Hub in Lisburn City Centre has been welcomed by Lagan Valley DUP representatives Paul Givan MLA and Jeffrey Donaldson MP.

Following correspondence sent to the Social Development Minister, Nelson McCausland amid speculation that the centre earmarked for Lisburn would be located in another area, the political representatives are pleased to welcome an announcement that will see the creation of a hub in the City Centre.

Mr Givan commented, “Having been contacted by businesses in Lisburn who had lobbied DSD about the location of the hub we wrote to the Minister, Nelson McCausland expressing our views that Lisburn would be ideally suited to accommodate a project that will encourage start-up businesses.

“In a recent response, the Minister outlined very clearly his intentions to pursue the creation of one of the specialist hubs in Lisburn.

“This news is very welcome for Lisburn City Centre as the scheme is aimed at bringing empty or derelict retail units back into use that will create new jobs.

“I look forward to this initiative becoming operational next year.”

Mr Donaldson said,“The decision by the Department of Social Development to locate a Social Economy Hub in Lisburn is an important step to improving the economy locally.

“It was paramount that Lisburn should receive a hub to address some of the economic issues facing Lisburn and we thank the Minister for listening to our representations. The Department will now identify suitable premises and secure agreements to allow the hub to become operational in 2014.”
