Local spuds are top value for taste

An Ulster Farmers’ Union spud expert says buy local and get the best flavour from your potatoes.

Adrian Jamison, Chairman of the UFU’s Potato Policy Committee says: “Potato producers have gone to great lengths to raise quality standards. With the mild spring and good weather recently, growing conditions have been ideal for local potato producers.

“The harvesting of new season earlies is now in full swing with Queens and other second earlies being of plentiful supply. There will be no need for any more foreign imports.  With increased high input costs, we now need the support of merchants, packers, retailers and consumers to source quality local potatoes to help safeguard potato enterprises across Northern Ireland.”
