A law onto themselves!

That’s because they will become the first school in Northern Ireland to enter an international law event in New York this autumn.

Susan Gregg, Bar Mock Trial Coach at Dalriada School’s, said: “Each year we enter a team in the Bar National Mock Trial Competition and in November 2010, for the first time ever, we won the N.I. heats. The team then competed in the National competition, held in Belfast in March 2011, and were awarded 3rd place.

“Last month we received an invitation to apply to compete in the Empire City Invitational, the International Mock Trial event being held in New York on October 21st-23rd 2011. Schools who have achieved top places in each country were invited to submit an application form, along with questionnaires from two students.

“We have been notified that our application has been successful, making us the first school from N.I. to ever compete in this world-wide competition. Teams from countries such as Australia, Canada and Korea have been confirmed and 8 reigning American State Champions will also compete.

“Dalriada’s Bar Mock Team are absolutely delighted to have been chosen to take part in this international competition. It is a very prestigious event which would allow our pupils to represent their school and Northern Ireland with pride.

“Dalriada School has enjoyed participating in the Northern Ireland heats of the competition for several years and as a result have had the great pleasure of watching many pupils develop a real passion for pursuing a career in Law.

“The enthusiasm and determination shown by every single member of the team has been outstanding. Their commitment and teamwork has undoubtedly contributed to ensuring our success.

“In order for the team to compete in the Empire City Invitational we need to raise approximately £10,000. We have begun to organise fundraising and seek sponsorship in an effort to help cover the travel and accommodation costs we will incur by participating in this International event. This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our pupils and there is no doubt that they are very capable of success.

“The team will be working hard over the summer months to prepare for the competition and are keen to maintain the very high standard they have set thus far, said Susan Gregg.
