Speaking to the Newtownabbey Times, Abbey’s principal, Mrs Maria Quinn said: “The entire Abbey Community College school family is absolutely delighted to hear from the Minister of Education that he is releasing the funds to enable our new school project to move forward to the procurement and construction phases. A huge amount of work has been undertaken to date and it is wonderful that all the design and planning work will now become a reality.

"Our school population has grown by 300 since opening in September 2015 and the state of the art facilities that our new school will bring are much needed by our staff, students and wider community.

“This substantial investment ensures that our aspirational school motto of ‘Believe, Achieve, Succeed’ will be enhanced for all our young people into the future.

“We are indebted to everyone who has worked alongside us to reach this significant milestone.”
