Art competition success for Parkview pupil Kavan

Kavan’s artwork, Yellow Horse, was inspired by Pop Artists including the world-renowned artist Andy Warhol’s pop art of everyday objects.

His winning painting was chosen from entries by primary school children across Northern Ireland and is featured in the MAC’s brand new 2013 calendar.

The response from primary school children was overwhelming in the third year of the Northern Ireland-wide competition to find 12 winning masterpieces.

Kavan described the inspiration behind his winning artwork: “In class we looked at pop art with our teacher and I liked the colours. I chose to paint a horse because it’s one of my favourite animals.”

For the first time, all 12 winning masterpieces will be framed and displayed in the MAC – the Masterpiece for the MAC exhibition will open to the public in the MAC on Friday, 8 February, to coincide with the Warhol exhibition there which opens on the same day. This is the first ever major exhibition of Andy Warhol’s work in Northern Ireland.
