Art makes a point at new Ngage facility

Eye catching and vibrant works of art, created by Art & Design students from the Northern Regional College, have filled the colourful new premises of Start360’s ‘One Stop Shop’ and drop-in youth centre - NGage at 2-6 Wellington Street, Ballymena.

The exhibition show cases the work of the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design students who have studied a mix of painting, photography, graphic design, sculpture, printmaking and textiles during their one year at the college before progressing on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma next year.

The high quality of work and creativity of the students was recognised by Indu Callaghan, NGage’s drop-in manager who commented that, “it was a privilege to have the students exhibit their work in the centre as the pieces really bring the atmosphere of the building to life”.

NGage’s target audience of 11 -25 yr olds are encouraged to enhance their lives in a wide range of fields including health, personal issues, career options and education to name a few, so the links made this year with the Students from the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma who, as part of their course came up with the name Ngage and helped design the logo for the centre, have also had an opportunity to present large canvases and prints from their painting and printmaking projects.

Lecturers Wendy Waring and Michele Halligan-Smyth are delighted at the standard of work this year and are excited to promote the work and potential of the Art & Design students within the department as they progress further in their careers in the creative industry.
