Bus issues for pupils at St Ronan’s College

After complaints of over-crowding and late buses Translink has vowed to work with St Ronan’s College over teething problems during its first week.

One mum described bus conditions from Derrytrasna to Lurgan as ‘a disgrace’ with pupils crammed onto the bus.

St Ronan’s College said: “Translink have been monitoring the travel arrangements this week and we are grateful for their support. Translink have assured us they are dealing with the issues regarding the large numbers on the Derrymacash bus and the times of the Gilford bus arriving in the morning in time for school. They hope to resolve these issues as quickly as possible. We thank everyone for their patience and support in this transition period.”

Translink said: “At the beginning of term time each September, school bus services across Northern Ireland are subject to a brief ‘settling-in’ period in which we modify services to meet pupil demand and travel requirements. We are currently working closely with St Ronan’s College to ensure that appropriate morning and afternoon school bus services are in place and that pupils arrive at and depart from school on time.”
