In line with previous years, Lisburn City Council had agreed a contribution of £5,000 toward the cost of the scheme organised by the South Eastern Education and Library Board.
Councillor Thomas Beckett, speaking about the summer scheme, said: “It was a privilege to visit Parkview School and see first hand the enjoyment which the summer scheme offers the young people of Parkview and Knockevin Special Schools.

“Routine for those with special needs is important; and such a summer scheme provides a source of comfort and support for the parents and carers of these young people, Despite the best efforts of parents it is inevitable that young people will suffer periods of boredom during the long summer break.”
He added: “Its Fun Day allows the young people to participate in both indoor and outdoor activities as well as have their faces painted and balloon models made for them”.
“It was great that the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service was able to attend and bring a fire engine along which caused a high level of excitement amongst the participants.”
