Kilronan Special School in Magherafelt has been included in an announcement for captial funding totalling £80m for extension and refurbishment and new build construction projects.

Local SDLP representatives Patsy McGlone MLA said the school plays an important role in the lives of young people with severe learning difficulties.

"It provides a safe and stimulating learning environment where pupils can achieve, feel valued and are respected as individuals,” he said.

Party colleague and Magherafelt Cllr Christine McFlynn added, “The funding will help improve facilities at the school.

“This will ensure that staff can continue to deliver the high level of education and care that the pupils deserve.”

Mr McGlone added: “We will be seeking clarification from the Minister about the level and timeframe for the funding.

“The SDLP will continue to work closely with the school and the department to ensure building work at the school is completed as quickly as possible.”
