Glengormley educators in running for accolades

Louise Fox, Senior Teacher and Head of English at the Ballyclare Road school has been shortlisted from thousands of entries for the TES English Teacher of the Year Award and is the only shortlisted nominee from Northern Ireland.

Commenting on the news Mr Massey said: “We at Glengormley High School already recognise how amazing Mrs Fox is and this is simply a testament to her skills, passion and dedication.

“She is a wonderful school leader and an amazing classroom practitioner - she would be a very worthy winner.”

Mr Massey has also been shortlisted to the final eight within the category: TES Headteacher of the Year Award.

He said: “The changes within Glengormley High School since I arrived in April 2018 have been far reaching and I recognise the impact of staff working together to drive school improvement.

“Our GCSE results are the highest in the history of the school, Year 8 enrolment is the highest since 2007, and this shortlist, on the back of our school Special Educational Needs Coordinator (Mrs Lynn Kerr) winning the Pearson Silver Award for Special Educational Needs last week is just the perfect feedback on what we are doing well.”

Earlier this year, Glengormley High School successfully balloted all parents to change the school to Integrated status.

Mr Massey added: “We are well on our way to developing our Case for Change and Development Proposal.

“The amazing recognition that we are receiving from these UK-wide prestigious awards is something that lies at the very heart of integrated education - outstanding educational provision.”

TES editor Ann Mroz said: “It is always a highlight of the education calendar to see the best ideas and people lauded at the Tes Schools Awards.

“We had a record number of entries this year and the standard was very high, so all those shortlisted should be very proud: it’s an extraordinary achievement to be on this shortlist.”

Award winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony on Friday, November 13.
