High School to represent NI at Bar Mock Trial

Coleraine High School won the Northern Ireland heat of the Citizenship Foundation’s Bar Mock Trial Competition ahead of 15 other schools including defending UK Champions Aquinas Grammar School, Ballyclare High School and Dalriada.

The local girls now represent Northern Ireland in the UK Finals in Edinburgh in March.

The Bar Mock Trial is an annual competition which allows pupils from across the UK to experience the drama of the court room first hand. The pupils play the parts of Barristers, Witnesses, Court Officials and jurors.

This is the second time in three years that the High School have won the competition. Headmistress, Anne Bell said: “This wonderful achievement is testimony to the commitment and talent of pupils and staff. The capacity of the girls to hold their nerve under pressure is really quite remarkable.”

Mrs Bell reserved special praise for ‘Old Girl’ Diane Nixon who is now the Acting Director of the Graduate School of Professional Legal Education at UU Magee.
