At a time when funds for community groups and charitable organisations are becoming more difficult to access, the school said it was “incredibly grateful” for the opportunity to make a real difference in the area.

It plans to put the funds towards a health and wellbeing fair, alongside additions to the Sensory Garden.

“We are aware of the need to focus on the health needs of our pupils, not just their physical health but also their mental health,” a statement from the school read.

“Our school has adopted many strategies to try and help our pupils, their families and our whole school community to be aware of their health and to implement changes to have a healthier lifestyle.

“Due to the current Covid-19 situation we understand that our pupils, their families and our staff have all had very different experiences with some experiencing social isolation, loss and illness.

“Whilst others have enjoyed this time at home with their families and enjoyed the experience of learning at home and have consolidated learning and worked on new skills. Therefore, as a school, we would endeavour to use this funding to continue the work on promoting the health of our school community by holding a health and wellbeing fair for our pupils, their families, staff and also the local community.

“We will aim to be creative with the health and well-being fair following government restrictions in place at the time. We would also like to use part of the funding to commemorate this Covid-19 situation and add a memorial of this time to our Sensory Garden in our school grounds.

“We understand the importance of allowing our pupils time to process what has happened during these unprecedented times and feel that a sensory memorial would be the ideal way for them to do that.”

To help raise vital funds, the school will be relying on Co-op members.

“When a member buys selected branded products and services, the Co-op will give a helping hand to local causes like ours,” the school added. “We really hope that people will visit the website and select us as their local cause.”
