Kids are winners with Trasna spirit

IT’S all about community spirit in Derrytrasna and with hard work and lots of fundraising, the new generation have finally got their playgroup.

After two long years, The Derrytrasna Playgroup has finally moved into their permanent home.

The project began nearly two years ago when the playgroup committee realised they would have to find a new home.

For the past 10 years the playgroup had been housed in St Mary’s Primary School. However, when St Mary’s numbers increased, the playgroup’s classroom was needed to cater for the bigger population at the primary school.

Over the next year the playgroup committee attempted to find a new classroom and funding for this room.

In the end, the only option was to build a new mobile classroom (with funding kindly provided by SOAR) next to St Mary’s.

The Bay Hall very generously allowed the playgroup to rent a room throughout the 2011-2012 school year while the new classroom was being built.

Although it would not have been possible to build this classroom without the dedicated work of the committee and the very generous support from the people of Derrytrasna and the wider Community, there are a few of the committee members, the Playgroup leader and the Principal of St Mary’s Primary school in particular who made this happen.

The Derrytrasna Playgroup would like to sincerely thank them for their dedication and perseverance to make this happen for the benefit of the Derrytrasna Community.

The mobile was finally completed and ready for the current playgroup class to move in on June 19, just in time for the remaining few days of the school year. The children were thrilled to move to the new Derrytrasna Playgroup classroom and felt at home immediately.

The playgroup will open again in the beginning of September.

Two other exciting developments are the new breakfast and after school clubs that will also be starting in September.

There are places in the clubs and pre pre-school still available for the 2012-2013 school year.

The playgroup will be having an open night in August to meet prospective parents and to thank the many individuals and businesses that donated so generously.
