The milestone was passed today (Wednesday) through the efforts of the Technology departments at Larne Grammar School and Larne High School.

Larne Grammar teacher Rhyan McCoy, who has spearheaded the project, started out with a 500 visor target but now after teaming up with Larne High has been able to step up production.

Mr McCoy said: “The Technology department at Larne High have been an invaluable asset. We have just broken the 2000 visor mark today!”

He also paid tribute to members of the public for supporting their JustGiving appeal which has enabled the provision of other personal protective equipment (PPE).

“Our crowd funding is over £2600 now too which is absolutely fantastic. It has allowed me to source sanitiser in bulk and just picked up over 70L of sanitiser for care homes, GP surgeries and pharmacies, which is fantastic.

“We are trying to source face masks at the moment but are very hard to source in bulk.”

Mr McCoy revealed there have been local links between school and recipient too, including “delivering medical gloves, bottles of sanitiser and 80 face visors to Carrickfergus Homecare after the mother of past pupils got in contact asking if we could help”.

The animal kingdom hasn’t been forgotten either.

“Our beloved pets are also benefiting from the support of the local community. With staff at a local veterinary now able to protect themselves with our face visors, they are now able to open for emergency appointments.”
