Lurgan College celebrates a year of success at annual prize day

Mr Robinson praised the staff and pupils for their hard work during the past year. “The theme of my Speech Day address last year was our school motto, ‘Meliora Sequor’ – ‘to follow better things’ or ‘pursuing improvement’ and I am pleased to report that the classes of 2016 at A Level, AS Level and GCSE Level managed to follow that motto and produce a set of collective and individual record-breaking results,” he said.

“The Year 14 class of 2016, many of whom we welcome back to the College today, recorded some of the best ever performances achieved by College pupils in its long and illustrious history. For an incredible fifteenth year in a row, the pupils notched up a 99% pass rate in all subjects offered at A Level, once again surpassing the NI Grammar School average. Collectively, grades A*, A and B which accounted for almost two thirds of the all grades achieved and the 85% of A*-C grades were both above the NI Grammar School average. I wish to offer my gratitude for your wonderful contribution to the life of the school over the past four years and I hope and pray that we have done a good job in preparing you for the real world - academically, socially, morally and spiritually.

“At AS Level the commendable overall pass rate of 95% was over 5% above the national average. Replicating the very encouraging results at A Level and AS Level, the 2016 cohort of Y12 pupils produced some of the school’s best ever performances at GCSE.”

Mr Robinson also recognised the contribution made in the school’s extra-curricular programme, including public speaking, leadership, drama, and charity.

He concluded by saying: “We now have a gilt-edged opportunity to further enhance the Dickson Plan and to take it to a level which will make it the envy of every other part of the province.”
