Lynn gets top awards in legal studies

Lynn McMullan 25, daughter of Robert and Kathleen McMullan of Portrush Road, Ballymoney, graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2007 with a 2.1 honours degree in law and the following year with a masters degree in human rights law. In 2009 she commenced the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law Chester and completed the course in June 2010.

Lynn attended a prize giving ceremony at the College of Law in February 2011 where she was awarded the Chester and North Wales Law Society Prize for the best overall student on the Legal Practice Course in 2009/2010.

The prize is for the student who obtains the highest overall average mark across all subjects on the Legal Practice Course. Lynn saw off competition from 250 students from all over the UK to obtain the highest marks in her year and was presented with the prize by John Arnold, the president of the Chester and North Wales Law Society.

The Legal Practice Course is a course which all those wishing to qualify as soliciters in England and Wales must undertake and pass before they can proceed to the next stage of practice.

In addition, she was also awarded the Aaron & Partners Soliciters prize for obtaining the highest marks in the civil and criminal litigation parts of the Legal Practice Course. The prize was presented by Nick Clarke, a soliciter from Aaron & Partners who are a leading law firm with offices in Chester and Manchester.

Lynn said: “I was stunned to hear that I had won these awards and very proud of the achievement they represent. Conditions are quite difficult in the legal market at present but hopefully my achievement will help me to proceed to the next stage of my career.”

The College of Law is Britain’s largest legal training organisation for both student soliciters and barristers and attracts some of the country’s most able students. It has centres in London, Guildford, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Chester and York.
