Michael reaches top of the class

A YEAR 10 pupil at Banbridge Academy has achieved an A* after sitting his GCSE Maths exam two years early.

Michael Young was congratulated by the school’s principal, Mr Raymond Pollock, on what he described as an outstanding result.

Almost 60% of GCSE entries at the Academy this year were in the A*-A grade category.

Mr Pollock said he was over the moon with his pupils’ achievements, saying that the results were the result of hours of hard work by students, teachers and parents.

“GCSE results in the Academy in 2012 were excellent,” he said.

“Of the 182 pupils who sat GCSE examinations this year 59.5% of all entries resulted in the top Grades, A* or A, while 97.8% gained five passes at A*-C, including English and Mathematics.

“The overall pass rate of 97.3% confirms the extent to which our pupils fulfilled their potential.”

He added, “All these results were arrived at by sheer hard work and commitment on the part of our pupils, supported and encouraged by parents who can feel justifiably proud of these accomplishments.

“We are delighted for all our pupils as these results reflect tremendous strength in depth and we congratulate them on their outstanding achievements and wish them well for the future.

“I should like also to commend my teaching colleagues in Banbridge Academy who by their dedication, commitment and skill have produced these impressive results.”
