NRC to shine on Global Stage at WorldSkills Competition

Selected from award winning competitors from across the UK, students Chris Downey and Mark Maginty are the UK Mechatronics Squad, with fellow student David Nicholl, representing the UK in the CNC Milling competition.

NRC students have also been chosen to showcase their talents in Performing Arts and Cookery at the event which takes place from 5th – 8th October. With 150,000 global visitors expected, including some of the world’s most highly respected skills experts, NRC will help show the rest of the world, that Northern Ireland as well as the whole of the UK and the official Team UK that it excels at skills and talent.

The NRC Performing Arts department have devised a highly visual, entertainment display which includes a Dance, Drama, Music and Mime performance entitled “The day the Circus came to town’.

Four NRC Lecturers will join the seventeen exceptionally talented students, who will have the opportunity to perform on the world stage.

Catering Lecturers and four outstanding students will also be showcasing a Bio Organic cookery demonstration which will incorporate produce, heritage and cooking from the Causeway Coast of NI with particular emphasis on the use of seaweed products and traditional fish preserving techniques.

Commenting on the forthcoming event Trevor Neilands NRC Director/Chief Executive stated: “We are particularly proud that NRC students have been selected to participate in such a high level prestigious competition and are members of the Team UK Squad in Mechatronics and CNC Milling.

“Our young students will also have the opportunity to shine in front of a huge national and international audience in Performing Arts and Catering. For NRC staff and students to be part of this event which recognises skills and talent at the highest level, it is truly inspirational and I have every faith that our students will rise to the occasion and put on a spectacular show.”
