Old songs from Lough Neagh shore feature on new CD

Many throughout Co Armagh were reared on old songs such as ‘Going to the Dogs’, ‘Lurgan Pony Races’ or ‘Francis Street Maiden’ and many more - all originating from the south and east shores of the lough.

Now Clanbrassil Comhaltas and the Clanbrassil Traditional Singers are proud to launch their book on Traditional Songs of the ancient areas of Clanbrassil, Killultagh and Kilwarlin.

This project funded by The National Lottery Community Fund has involved working with Clanbrassil Senior Traditional Singers to source, sing and record old local tunes and songs resulting in this incredible song book and double CD with 42 songs.

Henry McDonald from the Senior Singing Group said: “We are delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has recognised our work in this way. The funding has provided a valuable resource to older members to support each other, build relationships, participate and preserve such important local information.”

It was launched on Friday 11th December at 8pm through Zoom with special guests including Roisin White, Aisling McCourt, Ciara McGleenan and Maurice Leyden.

Clanbrassil Traditional Singers meet weekly on a Friday evening and have gone online (through zoom) during the Covid 19 pandemic. New members both Senior and Junior are always welcome to join the group. The cost of the book and double CD is £15 (excluding postage and packaging)

All proceeds will go back into the Traditional Singers Project.
