Power NI helps Ballyrobert school get desks to support social distancing

The school was nominated to receive the funding by Power NI employee, Krystle Chapman, as part of the company’s staff sponsorship scheme ‘Helping Hands.’

This gives employees the opportunity to nominate organisations to receive funding. Thanks to the donation, the school will purchase new desks in order to achieve safe social distancing measures within the classroom.

Previously, traditional classrooms were not set up to promote social distancing due to class sizes.

However, during the Covid pandemic, classrooms have had to evolve in order to achieve safe social distancing measures.

Krystle commented: “My two children have attended The Thompson Primary School and it’s a fantastic school where ‘every child matters.’

“As a small rural school, having the space to socially distance the children was challenging and unfortunately, they did not have enough desks to be able to facilitate this.

“Working for Power NI, I know one of their core values is to support our local communities.

“I am delighted that the helping hands scheme in Power NI meant they are able to contribute towards the costs of new desks and as a result our children are able to be taught in a classroom setting.”
