Pupils celebrate exam results

THE pupils of Craigavon Senior High School were once again celebrating their successes following the release of this year’s GCSE results.

The 325 pupils in the year group sat 2,354 GCSE examinations, 99.5% of which resulted in pass grades. More than 90% of those grades were at Grade E or better while over 60% were grades A*-C.

Craigavon Senior High School Principal, Mr David Mehaffey, paid tribute to the pupils and their teachers. He said, “I am very happy for all those young people who have done so well and very encouraged that the hard work undertaken by both the pupils and their teachers has proved to be so worthwhile. They all deserve great credit.”

Top achiever on the Lurgan Campus was Natalie Archer followed closely by Julia Eakins, Chloe Roberts, Karl Boyce, Daniel Cairns, Heather Dobson, Adam Scorah and Kyle Turner all of whom had several A* or A grades among their nine high level passes.

Mr Mehaffey also highlighted the fact that good grades have not been confined to those pupils considered to be the most academically able. “I am very pleased this year by the achievements of pupils at all levels throughout the school,” he said. “We only ever ask that our pupils do their best and it is very satisfying when young people who have worked very hard at their own level get grades that surpass their expectations.”

Most of these young people will be continuing their studies in sixth forms and in a wide variety of further education and training courses. “We wish them well,” said Mr Mehaffey, “and we look forward to following their progress throughout the coming months and years.”
