Pupils’ work hot off the press

“Snippets of our Imagination” by the Brownlow Cluster involved Brownlow Integrated College, Carrick Primary School, Dickson Primary School, Drumgor Primary School, Lismore Comprehensive, St Anthony’s Primary School, St Brendan’s Primary School and Tullygally Primary School.

Each of the schools have their own `as participating with the cluster schools in a wide range of activities.

The Brownlow Cluster was set up as part of the Department of Education’s Extended Schools Programme.

Over the past few years the Brownlow Cluster has provided its pupils with a wide range of opportunites from an academic perspective, sporting, creative and aesthetic.

It aims to tackle the needs and interests of all pupils, especially for those from an under-privileged background.

The cluster also aims to make good use of the excellent amenities and facilities the Craigavon area has to offer.

Over the past year the pupils have attended programmes at the Craigavon Watersports and Golf and Ski Centres. They have also taken part in transition programmes at Lismore Comprehensive and Brownlow Integrated College which cater for P6 and P7 pupils endeavouring to transfer to these schools giving them an insight into a new school life and exciting opportunities various subject areas have to offer.

The latest project saw P5 and Year 8 pupils working together to collate a book of poems and stories entitled “Snippets of our Imagination”. Pupils were inspired in their ideas by local author Philomena Gallagher who worked on a detailed programme with the schools every day for four weeks.

The pupils had an excellent time and enjoyed the programme immensely; they grew in confidence, self esteem and developed their literacy skills in creative writing.

The book was launched by Deputy Mayor Councillor George Savage on Friday at a Celebration Event at Brownlow Hub.

This has been a tremendous achievement for the Brownlow Cluster and each of its schools involved.
