St Mary’s pupils pick up prizes in ‘Run for Unity’ event

THREE students from St Mary’s Grammar School have picked up top prizes after taking part in an international fun run at Stormont.

Magherafelt pupils Niamh McGuckin, Rory McKenna and Odhran Totten scored top places in the peace and universal friendship event ‘Run for Unity’ on Saturday, May 12th.

400 runners took part in the Belfast event, along with 100,000 other young people around the world in various time zones. At 3:00pm runners lined up outside Stormont where Luxembourg passed the baton to Ireland, through MP Naomi Long and the race began. At four o’clock, Ireland passed the baton on to Iceland.

Twenty-three students and four members of staff from St Mary’s were among the participants and MLA Anna Lo presented winners with their prizes.

Lower sixth student Niamh secured first place in her group, while Year 11 student Rory secured third place in his group. Odhran Totten was also well placed.
