St Michael’s celebrate success

Once again students in St Michael’s Grammar School were celebrating success as they received their GCSE results which showed a pass rate of 100% and 92% of all grades achieved falling within the upper band of A* to C.

Principal Gerard Adams expressed his delight at the outcomes saying: “One student in every twelve has achieved A* or A grades in every subject.

“That is a tremendous level of performance and is an indication of the commitment and dedication they have shown to their studies of the past two years.

“They are a great group of pupils and we look forward to continuing to build on their successes as they move forward into A Level studies in the coming days. I have every confidence that the successes of the past week will be repeated in two years’ time as they prepare to move onto third level studies.”

Students achieving A* or A grades in eight or more subject areas included Rebekah Clenaghan, Sarah, Doherty, Lucy Doyle, Orlagh Dummigan, Sinead Flannagan, Ciara Fox, Caroline Gallery, Aisling Lavery, Orla Magennis, Orlagh McConville, Amyrose McInerney, Sophie McManus, James McMorrow, Caitlin McQuade, Katie Moore, Sarah O’Hagan, Aisling O’Neill, Maria Quinn, Orla Ward.

Worthy of special mention is top performing student Amyrose McInerney whose seven A* and four A grades included an A* in Japanese which she had taught herself following the growth of interest in Japan and Japanese culture.

Mr Adams also paid tribute to the work of the staff of St Michael’s who have worked hard to support their students to bring them to their current high levels of achievement.

“It is also true that we could not achieve these results without the engagement of parents and I would like to thank them for their continuing support for the work that we do with their children”, said the principal.

Mr Adams also stated that he would like to recognise the input of St Mary’s and St Paul’s staff who do such a wonderful job in laying the foundations of the work which is completed in St Michael’s.
