St Patrick's Academy celebrates successes at prize night

The event recognised academic excellence, personal growth and the contribution pupils make to every aspect of school life.

Principal, Mrs G McCann, praised pupils for their commitment and determination, highlighting continued improvement in public examination outcomes, including excellent A level results in Health and Social Care and Sport and Leisure.

“Behind every qualification is a young person who has worked hard, overcome challenges and continued to believe in what is possible,” Mrs McCann said.

“Today, we celebrate not only achievement, but also the resilience, confidence and character of our young people.”

This year's Prize Day was particularly special as the Academy continues to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

Reflecting on the milestone, Mrs McCann spoke of the school's enduring mission to Nurture, Inspire and Empower, a commitment that has remained at the heart of Saint Patrick's Academy since it opened in 1966.

A highlight of the afternoon was the return of former pupil Ugne Girciute as guest speaker.

Ugne shared her journey from pupil to youth wellbeing advocate and community leader, encouraging young people to embrace opportunities, develop confidence and believe in their potential.

During her time at Saint Patrick's Academy, Ugne helped to create ‘103 Things I Love About Myself’, a Young Enterprise project that won the Northern Ireland Final and went on to achieve third place in the UK Final. She now works in youth wellbeing and community support.

Mrs McCann added: “Ugne is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when talent, determination and a desire to make a positive difference come together. We are incredibly proud of all she has achieved and delighted to welcome her back to Saint Patrick's Academy.”

Prize Day 2026 provided an opportunity not only to recognise achievement, but also to celebrate the strong sense of community that continues to define Saint Patrick's Academy as it marks sixty years of serving young people and their families.
