The programme, funded by DE through Ballymena Business Education Partnership, is a four-stage event that puts pupils to the test.

The four stages incorporate the completion of an application form for a specific job, an aptitude test, a group assessment and an individual interview. At the end of the process, four candidates are ‘offered the job’ and receive a prize for their achievement.

Pupils who took part in the Assessment Centre challenge, came prepared, dressed in professional attire and armed with the knowledge gained from the preparation workshop delivered by Darren Nixon and Ted Jensen. Before the event, pupils were excited and determined to be part of the last four standing.

The pupils battled hard and many excelled at each stage; however, elimination was inevitable for some.

After much deliberation, the four posts up for grabs were awarded to Samantha Graham, Laura Morrow, Jordan McCullough and Aaron McLeister.

A delighted Samantha said: “I took a lot from the experience, I now know what my strengths and weaknesses are in the interview and selection process and I can try to improve on these areas. I am very proud to be one of the four people who got the job in my year group.”

Dunclug College and eye4education would like to thank the business advisors who took time out of busy schedules to offer their much valued skills and expertise in the world of recruitment and selection.

Robert Moore, CEAIG Co-ordinator at Dunclug College, was delighted with the efforts of the students – “Interviews and Assessment Centres are very daunting for anyone and a real-life scenario such as this gives students invaluable experience which will benefit them in their future careers.”

Well done to all the students involved in this rewarding and worthwhile experience: another example of how the school seeks to live out its motto, ‘we are preparing for life’
