Alzheimer’s Society stages February info. programme

ARE you a relative and/or carer of someone with dementia? Would you like to develop your knowledge of dementia to assist you in your supporting role?

If so, then you may be interested to learn that the Alzheimer’s Society is hosting an information programme in The Old Courthouse, Antrim, on four dates this February from 7.30-9pm each evening.

There is estimated to be 17,700 people in Northern Ireland with dementia and this is projected to rise to 25,000 by the year 2021.

The term ‘dementia’ describes a set of symptoms which include loss of memory, mood changes, and problems with communication and reasoning. These symptoms occur when the brain is damaged by certain diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease and damage caused by a series of small strokes.

Each person is unique and will experience dementia in their own way, and with the support and understanding of those around them can live well with dementia.
