Cancer patientsattend well beingevent in town

The event, which was well attended, provided information to support those with a cancer diagnosis including how to cope with the effects of cancer and its treatment.

There were a series of short talks from health professionals, covering late effects of treatment, dietary advice, taking exercise, managing fatigue and the emotional impact of cancer on the person and their family. A representative from Action Cancer also detailed services available to support those with cancer, and their families, in the Coleraine area.

A cancer patient shared her experience of coming through the treatment process and talked about how she is enjoying new challenges in her life.

There was also a chance for visitors to meet with other people with similar experiences and an opportunity to speak with health professionals, a wide range of charities and other trust staff, all offering support to cancer patients.

Bernie O Neill, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Manager with the Northern Trust, stated: “With improvements in cancer detection and treatment increasing numbers of people are either cured or living much longer with cancer.

“These events help to ensure that people are well informed about the support services available to them.”
