The Northern Health Trust had the offensive material taken off the Taylor’s Avenue premises after the incident caused anger and upset in the east Antrim town.

A spokesperson for the Northern Trust said: “The Trust was made aware by staff that Carrickfergus Health Centre had been daubed with graffiti yesterday and took immediate action to have it removed.

“We would appeal to members of the public if they know anything about the graffiti to contact the PSNI.”

The appeal was echoed by East Antrim MLA John Stewart, who hit out at those behind the graffiti, which included crude images and anti-police sentiment.

The Ulster Unionist representative said: “If anyone knows who is responsible for this shameful and pathetic act please report them to the PSNI.

“I have also been made aware of other examples of intimidating graffiti across the local area in recent days. This is also totally unacceptable and needs to stop.”
