Chance for groups to get ‘FareShare’

Every day across the UK, from Jersey to the Hebrides, FareShare Go connects local communities to supermarkets in their area with surplus food to offer thanks to innovative technology. The FareShare Go programme provides desperately needed resources for frontline organisations, and helps to prevent quality food from being wasted and contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. The food is good quality that can no longer be sold for a number of reasons, such as damaged packaging or a short shelf life. Tesco, ASDA and Waitrose & Partners stores all donate their quality surplus food, via the FareShare Go App, text or email, and organisations in Larne, Newtownabbey and Northcotte are being urged to register for the programme.

Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive at FareShare, said: “Through our FareShare Go scheme, we work closely with retailers to ensure that no good food goes to waste, and ends up on people’s plates instead of landfill. We know that there are thousands of people going hungry across the UK, and many frontline charities and community groups offering much needed support where they can. I would urge any organisation to sign up to FareShare Go and access free surplus food.”
