Claire helps develop eating disorder group’s website

A new website has been launched in the local area to coincide with Eating Disorder Week.

The Northern area eating disorder support group StampED have recently launched their new website with help from Northern Trust placement student Claire O’Kane.

Claire has been working with the Northern Trust Eating Disorder Service as a 3rd year mental health nursing placement student. As part of her university course she was required to produce a health promotion project, for this she undertook to assist the eating disorder support group StampED to develop a website.

StampED is the Northern area eating disorder support group. Its mission is to stamp out eating disorders from the lives of sufferers and their families, friends and carers.

Claire began by meeting with the support group to identify the information that suffers and carers needed. Claire said “Following an initial meeting with the group we decided to include information on what eating disorders are, symptoms to look out for, how to get help and dates for forthcoming support group meetings. From this I then began developing the website.

“The support group hope that the website will be a valuable source of information for both those who suffer from an eating disorder and their families. The website went live in the new year and the support group are delighted with it.”

StampED meets on the first Monday of every month at First Presbyterian Church Hall, Meeting House Avenue, Ballymena from 7 pm to 9 pm. The meeting is open to anyone within the Northern Trust area who has an eating disorder past or present and their friends or family.
