Claire, the Head of Information Governance in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, was the only person from the UK to receive the prestigious title. She was also the only representative from Northern Ireland to be recognised across all of the Award categories at the recent Annual Information and Records Management Conference.

The Southern Trust’s Assistant Director of Informatics, Siobhan Hanna, said: “As a health and social care provider, our information records are one of our most valued corporate assets. Our 13,000 staff manage thousands of paper and electronic records every day, and it is our duty to ensure this sensitive data is handled meticulously so that we can deliver the best standards of care for all of our patients.

“With an exemplary track record in information management spanning almost 40 years, I have had the privilege of being line manager to Claire for 10 years now. We have seen major changes in Information Governance and Records Management and, through Claire’s diligence and leadership, we have overcome significant challenges - like the introduction of the Freedom of Information Act; harmonization of all the records management processes in 2007; and transforming the way we manage our records.

“Claire has developed and mentored an excellent team, who play a very valuable role in such a complex organisation - raising the profile of the importance of data and promoting a culture of respect for good information management.”

Claire has led many regional initiatives, is a founder member of the Information and Records Management Society in Ireland, and has networks across the UK and Ireland - including the Public Records Office and National Archives. A postgraduate of Queen’s University, Belfast, Claire’s entire career has been devoted to the public service.
