Antrim and Newtownabbey facility closures update

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has announced a number of temporary facility closures in response to a two-week circuit breaker to be imposed by the Northern Ireland Executive due to the Covid pandemic.

All leisure facilities in the borough will close for two weeks from Friday, November 27.

This includes fitness suites and classes, swimming pools, golf courses and driving ranges, outdoor pitches, racquet sports and running track.

A council spokesperson commented: “As a result and due to ongoing uncertainty regarding the opening of the council’s leisure facilities, membership fees will remain suspended until further notice.”

Meanwhile, Carrickfergus Castle will remain closed for the next three weeks with effect from today (Friday).

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has stated that due to the latest Covid-19 restrictions announced by the NI Executive, The Gobbins Visitor Centre and café in Islandmagee will close on Thursday, November 26 for two weeks.

Tours of The Gobbins cliff path will therefore not be available during this time,.

The council hopes that it can reopen on Friday, December 11.

A council spokesperson for Mid and East Antrim said: “Thank you all for the support you have shown since our reopening, stay safe and we look forward to welcoming visitors again soon.”
