CORONAVIRUS: Secondary school closes and puts mock exams on hold

A secondary school in Co Armagh with more than 1100 pupils has closed temporarily due to the Coronavirus situation.

Lismore Comprehensive in Craigavon will be shut for the rest of the week to help staff members with virtual learning tools.

It follows the closure of several primary schools including Lurgan Model, St Anthony’s PS and Scarva PS.

Lismore school’s Board of Governmors Chairperson Patricia McConville said the school will close for three days this week, Wednesday to Friday will be designated as INSET days to allow staff to prepare for a possible prolonged school closure.

“All pupils should remain at home until Monday 23rd March. Mock examinations for Years 13 and 14 have been postponed.

“We are currently working hard to prepare learning and teaching materials for independent and virtual learning, should these be required.

“We apologise for any inconvenience these changes to the school calendar may cause.

“We will continue to closely monitor the situation and will communicate any further updates via our social media platform and school App. Thank you for your continued support.”
