The programme has been introduced as part of Council’s effort to support the community throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

It will offer financial support to assist constituted groups working in the community to: deliver food and essential items; link to pharmacies to deliver prescriptions and/or other emergency crisis community support.

Speaking about the programme, the Council’s Chair, Martin Kearney encouraged eligible groups to apply.

“The new emergency grant programme is the next step in our on-going support for community organisations and hopefully will, in some way, illustrate our appreciation for the magnificent work these organisations are so selflessly undertaking daily to assist those most in need in our local communities,” said the SDLP Councillor.

“The grant will give groups more financial freedom to continue this essential and valuable work and allow them to, perhaps, even further enhance or extend the service they provide for those who need it.

“Of course it is important to point out how crucial it is that proper social distancing measures and safety advice is adhered to during this community service.

“Please protect yourselves, the volunteers and those in the community you are providing for by ensuring parcels are dropped off on doorsteps, products are wiped and hands are repeatedly washed.

“By doing this we will be safeguarding ourselves and the most vulnerable in our community allowing the service to operate as safely as possible.

“I would certainly encourage all eligible groups in the district to apply and avail of the significant financial aid available.”

If you feel your group would benefit from funding support, please contact either: [email protected], or [email protected]. Or complete the short grant application form at: www.midulstercouncil.org/emergencyfundcovid19.
