Scott Higginson, proprietor of the Marine Highway store said: “These are unprecedented and extremely difficult times on a global level, and we all need to pull together to help combat COVID-19 and ease the pressure on our brave medical staff.

“Monday night’s announcement by the UK Government highlighted the urgent need for people to stay at home for the benefit of all, and with this in mind, we feel that it is in the best interest of both our staff and our loyal customers to temporarily close our doors until further notice.

“This decision was not taken lightly but it has become increasingly difficult for staff in our busy kitchen to observe safe social distancing while at the same time maintaining the high levels of service that our customers expect.

“We would like to thank all of our staff who have worked tirelessly and made such a huge effort over the past number of weeks to ensure that our service to customers did not suffer. We also thank our loyal customers for their continued support and we hope that everyone understands our decision.

“Rest assured we will be monitoring developments very closely and will re-open as soon as it is appropriate to do so. In the meantime, we would urge everyone to stay safe and, most importantly, to stay at home to make sure that our heroes in the health service are able to carry out their jobs as best they can to save and protect us all."
