Golf course opens

Mid Ulster District Council’s Chair has welcomed the news that golfing facilities at Tobermore will reopen next week.

Speaking after Council confirmed it is to reopen its 9-hole par three course and driving range at Tobermore on Tuesday, May 26 at 5pm, the Council’s Chair, Councillor Martin Kearney said the centre is looking forward to welcoming golfers again.

“We know that people are looking forward to playing a round of golf again, so I’m please to announced that we’re now able to reopen our golfing facility at Tobermore,” said the Council’s Chair.

“The health and safety of our customers is paramount, so our staff are completing the hard work to get the recommended measures in place that will allow the public to use the facility safely and with confidence.

“There are a number of temporary changes to how access to the centre will work, and we’re asking users to abide by the rules for both their own and others safety.

“It is extremely positive that Council is now able to to take this first step in providing leisure services again to our residents that support their health and well-being, and we look forward to welcoming back golfers.”

Announcing that Tobermore Golf Centre and Driving range will reopen, a spokesperson for Mid Ulster District Council explained the decision follows the Executive’s easing of restrictions on outdoor activities.

“To ensure that people can use the course and driving range safely, sessions will need to be booked in advance,” said a Council spokesperson.

“The driving range will have limited bays open, with sessions restricted to 40 minutes.

“While customers are being asked to bring their own golf clubs, one basket with 60 golf balls, which will have been through the automatic washer, will be made available for use on the range.

“On the 9-hole course, tee times are being staggered every 15 minutes with a maximum number of three people per booking for the course.”

The spokesperson continued: “Once again, customers are being asked to bring their own equipment as no clubs or balls will be available for hire for the course.

“A one way system will be in operation with signage around the site to remind players to follow the route and to keep two metres apart from anyone from outside their own household.”

Sessions at Tobermore Golf Course and Driving Range must be booked and paid for in advance by telephoning the Centre on 028 7939 7939 between the times of 5pm and 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The centre will open week days (Monday to Friday) from 5pm to 9pm and on Saturday and Sunday, from 9am to 4pm.

Players are advised that the putting green along with the private coaching studio with trackman and video analysis technology currently remains closed.
