The confirmation comes in the wake of a surge of donations of home-made personal protection equipment, including face shields, masks and even scrubs, for frontline staff fighting coronavirus.

Outlining how it deals with donations, a spokesperson for the Trust has advised members of the public to contact its Corporate Governance Department if they wish to donate any potential PPE.

“The Trust has a nominated single point of contact, with the Corporate Governance Department for all donations,” said the spokesperson.

“All offers of PPE are reviewed by the Trust Health and Safety Advisor, in conjunction with Infection Prevention Control colleagues as appropriate, to ensure that they meet the required standard and have the necessary certification.

“Any offers of donations should be directed towards the Corporate Governance Department, where the above arrangements can be implemented.”

The spokesperson also explained how delighted the Trust is to be inundated with donations from the local community.

“The Northern Trust is incredibly grateful for the offers made to date by people wishing to donate home-made items such as face shields, masks and scrubs,” said a spokesperson for the Trust.

“We recognise this as a clear signal of support this shows to our Health and Care Services and Teams during this extraordinary time.”
